A word from the coach...

He is getting some advise at the triple jump pit. Notice how the girls on the track team braided his hair!

Track Meet

Feliciana and I went to watch Jordan at a track meet in Gridley Wednesday afternoon. He ran a leg of the 400 relay, an individual 400, and did the triple jump.

Call from Josh

Josh called today. I was a little surprised because he just called on Tuesday evening. Oh, well, I'll take what I can get. He sounded really good. He was in a very talkative mood. He said they are going out into the field more and more. In the next week or two, they will spend 3 nights out. Each week they have a longer and longer "march". This week they also start land navigation and compass work. They are firing bigger and bigger guns. He told me the mm. but whoosh-I forgot exactly what numbers they were. He also has to do his laundry tonight. Today was a down day for them. He went to church, wrote 8 letters and got to make a call. He is looking forward to family weekend. We can check him out on Friday, May 18 and he has to be back by 4 p.m. on Sunday the 20th. Some of the guys have already gotten their orders. One is going to Korea, another to Ft. Drum, and a third to Alaska. He explained that once they are in White phase they could get orders at any time. But, those orders could also be changed any time up until graduation. At graduation their orders become set or they could even get their orders then.

Letter from Josh

Got a great letter from Josh today. He is such a good writer, lots of details and news. I tried to scan it into the computer to send to Steph and Nonnie, but Steph's came back saying it was too much for her email account at SFSU.
Josh is into his second phase of BCT. He is in the White Phase. The phases, in order, are red, white and blue. He said the white phase has more privileges but a lot more responsibilities. He really seems to like it. Family day/weekend is May 18, 19, and 20. The kids and I are going. Seven weeks after that is graduation. He really wants lots of people to come to his graduation, so check your calendar! Family weekend marks the end of BCT. Then, AIT starts. That has a black phase and a gold phase.

Huela's birthday

Julian made Huela this birthday cake. We all had spaghetti dinner at the Refuge, the Monday night special. We had the cake and ice cream over here. Steph was even here by happenstance.

The Good Shopper

After dinner at the Olive Garden in the mall near the campus, we all went shopping. Jordan was a great shopper! (I do not know how to turn the picture).

Here we are in SF. After having a picnic near the dorms, we rode the train to Haight/Ashbury. Steph showed us the little shops in the neighborhood. We bought SF postcards to send to Josh.

Off to SF

We are off to see Stephanie today. We are taking a picnic lunch to eat on campus. We will have dinner in the city somewhere. We got to talk to Josh on Sunday. All day long I had a feeling he would call. Then, he did! Thank goodness Jordan was driving and I could actually answer the phone and talk. He talked to me, Jordan, Huela, Matt, and Brad. We were on our way to Brad and Sharon's for dinner when he called. He talked for 14:39-that is a long time. He sounded good. He said the best part of basic is the breakfast.

new way to keep in touch

Emily is starting this blog and I plan to use it to keep everyone updated on everyone else in my immediate family. Emily is graciously helping me. Now that I have a camera, I want to send pics of different events in the family. With this blog you can keep yourself updated. This is Josh at the swearing in ceremony on March 8.
