Memorial Day

We had a BBQ here with Huela and Aunt Julie and family. The kids have a 7 week old puppy named Disney. Echo was so good with him. She kept track of his every move. The kids enjoyed the pool. Feli is waving to Josh.

Class A's

After basic training, he says he is a soldier but without a job. After the AIT, advanced individual training, then he will have his job.

Lincoln's Birthplace

We drove about 15 miles east of Elizabethtown to Hodgenville where Lincoln was born. It is a beautiful area with green rolling hills and lots of woods. There is a natural spring here. One reason people settled here then. A replica of the family cabin is inside a "Lincoln Monument" replica.

ACU is Army Combat Uniform. This is what he wears everyday.

Patton Museum

We spent one morning here. There are grounds to walk through, then the displays on the inside.

blogger woes

Since it took so long to get on this page, I do not have enough time to post any pictures of the rest of our trip to KY or any tid-bits of our BBQ yesterday with the kids' new puppy. I will try again this afternoon,

Relaxing in Kentucky

In his letters before Family Day, Josh said he wanted to drink Coke, eat chocolate, take a nap, hang out, and eat Mexican food. We took an ice chest with Coke, M & M's, Kit-Kats, Milky Way, and 3 Musketeers. As we were touring the post with Josh, he and the kids enjoyed the junk food. We saw the PX, the Shoppette, the barber shop, and several different places he trained. We bought souvinirs at the PX and the Shoppette (small version of the PX where he shops). Lots of the places we drove, Josh had never been there. He only gets to places by walking as a troop. They have a limited area they are allowed to go so it was new to all of us. We got back to the hotel and he hopped "on-line" to catch up with folks and listen to music. We all went to the Jacuzzi, then to Chevy's for dinner and dessert!

Family Day

This was the first glimpse we had of Joshua. He had to ride the bus back to the barracks then we could sign him out. Once we got to the barracks area, Steph said it was like picking a puppy from the pound! They all looked the same from a distance.

View from afar

Another view of the holleyhock. I have 4 in the back corner. There are several others that I need to dig up and move to a better location. To be continued...

Black Holleyhocks

I am practicing my picture taking ability. Need some work on that. These are from the 3 little holleyhocks I bought from Chris when he worked at the ranch/feed store on Colusa Hwy. years ago now. He was a jr. or sophmore in high school at the time. Anyway, they have continued to re-seed. I moved them from near the grass to farther away near the back corner of the yard.
